About Us

History

Grandchicks (Pty) Ltd ("Grandchicks"), is a 100% privately owned family business, operating in both the North West and Gauteng Provinces. It was co-founded by Mrs Pumla Mahuma.

We produce and supply chicken meat to the home, restaurant and catering markets and we operate through 3 divisions: Grandchicks Live, Grandchicks Abattoir and Grandchicks Online Meat Store.
 
Grandchicks Live

 We supply live chickens to mainly the household and hawker market.
Grandchicks Abattoir

 Our accredited abattoir is HACCP compliant and has capacity of 2000 birds per day.  It services individuals who have chickens slaughter requirements, small farmers as well as our restaurant, catering and corporate clients.  Click here for further details.
Grandchicks Online Chicken Meat Store

Our online store services households and individuals with fresh chicken meat - whole chickens and portions.  We service customers primarily in Gauteng, and also around Hartebees and Brits for now.  Our ambition is to expand to other provinces in the long term.
We have been producing chickens since 2014 at our farms in Brits.  We process and package them at our accredited chicken abattoir.   
We generally slaughter to order so that we can guarantee our customers the freshest chicken meat.   
     
Our chickens are fed with grain, and are not given any growth hormones and the meat has no brine.

Our chicken meat is supplied fresh (and can be freshly frozen at the request of our customers or will be frozen 5 days after slaughter date) and is not injected with brine.

To contribute significantly towards food security in South Africa and, in the process, create jobs through Agricultural Value Chains.
